Over its history there have been as many as seven different villages within the town itself. Westport Point once was a whaling port and now maintains an active fishing fleet. Its main street has been designated as an Historic District and is lined with antique homes. The countryside is endowed with true working farms, acres of open space and beautiful old stone walls. Central village, the town's commercial district, offers complete services with small town charm. The two branches of the Westport River feed into the famous harbor entrance at the Point of Rocks. The Westport Harbor/Acoaxet area has the best of both worlds being orientated to the river and the ocean. Boating offers a wonderful way to see the abundant wildlife that lives along the river, and beautiful Horseneck Beach is a great place to walk and play in the sun and water.
